MATHESON WHITELEY won an invited competition to design the showroom and public spaces of a new London head-quarters for fashion house Alexander McQueen. Part-fitting room, part-gallery and part-event space, the showroom is a large, flexible space that can be transformed to suit a range of scenarios and uses.
The original Alexander McQueen atelier is nearby and the new space draws on the history of industrial spaces in East London, both in scale and materiality. Specific elements, including cast-iron floor grilles, a ceramic reception desk and bespoke flooring have been developed in careful collaboration with small, craft-based workshops and manufacturers across the UK.
