New studios for growing fashion designers Peter Pilotto seek to retain the energy and activity of their previous studio, while increasing workspace area and providing a framework for future growth.

Highly physical activities such as pattern cutting and prototyping are located on ground level, directly off the street, visible from the main entry. Beyond this, a series of open and enclosed collection areas run parallel to Regents Canal, allowing for the development of parallel collections.

A broad runway connects both studio and production spaces. At one end of the runway is a staff kitchen, and the other a fitting area. Meanwhile, generous concrete stairs link to private offices and below.

The architectural character of the space remains raw and direct, with in situ concrete left exposed wherever possible and the floor unified by a new concrete slab, which also distributes power and services. Lighting is provided through a network of suspended daylight battens running in lines perpendicular to the canal. These provide an orientation back towards the water of Regents Canal, providing glimpses of calm, nature and animal life within the density of East London.
